Eternal rest for a love left unfinished.

Eternal Rest for a Love Left Unfinished, 2026, sculptural installation (soil, plastic, bedframe, fabric, wood, plaster, clay) with ritual preparation

Savina Ražnatović introduces a two-piece work for this exhibition, drawing on her complex personal history with bodily autonomy and maternal loss. The relief mounted on the wall is one of the only surviving pieces she created during the period of an abortion forced on her by a romantic partner in 2018. With its bubbling, cell-like shapes moulded in clay and plaster, the artwork recalls the process of creation and early development.

Ražnatović reactivated the relief by introducing a counterpart conceived as an act of letting go. This installation takes the form of a soil-filled mattress resting on a bedframe, its surface indented by the imprint of the artist’s naked, once-maternal body. The bed collapses multiple symbolic registers: a site of conception, birth, surgery, and death.

By the choice of title and the ritual enacted during installation, Ražnatović not only honors the memory of unborn life but also buries the harm inflicted upon her womanhood. The soil, handled as part of the creation process, becomes a material that absorbs loss while remaining capable of sustaining growth. After the exhibition, it will be donated to Mani in Orto, a Venetian initiative that engages children in horticulture, teaching them how care cultivates plants and social bonds.
